Featured Pets

Sometimes there is a pet whose face or story just touches your heart.

Special Dogs at OSCAR Animal Rescue

Our featured dogs and cats are often with O.S.C.A.R. longer than other pets. Sometimes they have special needs and other times it just takes longer to find them the right family. So, it often costs more for their care.

Here are some deserving pets who really need forever families.
Can you open your home to one of them?

If you are not in the position to adopt a pet of your own right now, why not consider SPONSORING a dog or cat? Occasionally, we have pets with special needs who require extra vet care, medications, and special food. Your SPONSORSHIP will help us give them all the special care they need as they wait for their forever family.

Please type 'Sponsor' in the Special Instructions box. Thank you!.

Meet Mila!

Breed: Anatolian Shepherd/German Shepherd Dog
Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
Age: Young
Size: Large
Weight: 61-100 lbs (when grown)
Sex: Female-Spayed

Good with kids
Not good with dogs
Shots current

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mila was surrendered because she wanted to be with people rather than sheep so she wasn't a very good livestock guard dog. Mila is really just a big ham who loves belly rubs. She is tons of fun and loves people. She is very food motivated so this can be used to help do some training with her. Mila loves people and would prefer to be the only dog in the home. We do not know what she thinks of cats. Due to her size, a home with kids 8+ is preferred (she loves kids but may accidently knock some smaller ones over). This gorgeous girl is about 2-3 years old and 90 lbs. Please help Mila find the loving home she deserves.

**Please note we currently have another dog with a similar name. Please make sure you use the spelling "MILA" on your application or correspondence to avoid any confusion.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Daisy Mae is an owner surrender. Her previous owner said she is a great dog but of late she had become aggressive with other dogs over food. Otherwise Daisy loves every dog she meets. She is a super sweet dog and good with kids. We do not know what she thinks of cats. Daisy knows basic commands, loves to play and walks well on a leash. She does take one prescription pill a day called Proin for overnight urinary incontinence on her bed and is otherwise housebroken. She goes to the door to let you know she needs to go out. Daisy is 5 years old and 77 pounds. Please help Daisy Mae find the loving home she deserves.

Meet Shaggy #2!

Breed: Miniature Poodle/Bichon Frise
Color: White
Age: Senior
Size: Medium
Weight: 26-60 lbs
Sex: Male-Neutered

Good with dogs
Good with cats
Shots current
Housetrained

My Personality: Affectionate, Food-motivated, Gentle, Playful, Quiet, Snuggly

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shaggy #2 is an affectionate, friendly, gentle, and playful senior dog! This happy boy is a snuggle bug who enjoys spending his days lounging around, going on nice walks, playing with his favourite toys, and eating frozen food-stuffed Kongs. Despite his cataracts, Shaggy gets around just fine, walks on stairs and can jump on couches and beds with minor assistance. He is crate-trained but prefers to spend his time with his people or his foster dog siblings. He even gets along with cats! Shaggy is housebroken, uses a pee pad, and is crate-trained. He already knows basic commands like "sit" and "shake" and can be left free in the house as he doesn't destroy things. He is also very food-motivated and always comes running when he hears the sound of a treat! At 11 years old, Shaggy is an easy-going and low-maintenance senior dog who is just looking for a loving home where he can spend his golden years. He has so much love and affection to give and will provide endless snuggles and companionship. If you think you can give Shaggy the loving home he deserves, please submit an adoption application today. Let's find this sweet boy his forever home!

Update: Our vet has determined Shaggy has food allergies and is doing great on a prescription diet which has been helping with his skin and fur allergies/sensitivity. He is itching much less. He is currently getting monthly cytopoint shots while his skin is healing. Shaggy also was seen by an eye specialist and it was determined that, although he would be able to undergo anesthesia, he has an additional eye issue that would keep him from having successful cataract procedure.

*Please note we currently have two dogs with similar names. Please refer to this dog as Shaggy#2 when filling out your application or emailing to avoid any confusions or delays in processing.*

Meet Kelly!

Breed: English Pointer/Beagle
Color: White - with Red, Golden, Orange or Chestnut
Age: Adult
Size: Small
Weight: 25 lbs
Sex: Female-Spayed

Shots current

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kelly is on the timid side but is a very sweet dog. Whoever adopts her will have to give her time to come out of her shell. It will probably take a couple weeks before she feels comfortable. In the beginning she will most likely try to avoid the people in the home. Kelley also appears to be more comfortable with women in the beginning than men. Because of her shyness, Kelly should be in a home with older children (15+).

Kelly was surrendered when she got into an altercation with another female dog in the home and the owner got bit when she tried to separate the dogs. It was the only time Kelly has bitten and it was not because she meant to bite the owner. Because of this, Kelly should only be in a home with another male dog or be an only dog.

Kelly has been evaluated by an experienced dog trainer who feels that if Kelly "goes into the right environment and is given enough time to come out of her shell and bond with her new owners, I think she will do very well. She did not display any aggression when she was being evaluated, she only appeared shy with someone she had never met before. She was very sweet and loving to the person that brought her in, which shows that she will make strong bonds with the people she knows and is a very sweet dog once that bond is made."

Outside of the noisy shelter and in the play yard, Kelly is much more relaxed and is very affectionate. She loves attention and being pet. Kelly is about 34 pounds and 5 years old. Give Kelly a second chance and help her find the loving home she deserves.
