One Step Closer Animal Rescue (O.S.C.A.R.)

'Helping you find your new best friend'

Sparta, NJ

Pet Surrenders & TNR

Contact OSCAR Animal Rescue in Sparta, NJ if you must surrender your dog or cat.

One Step Closer Animal Rescue (O.S.C.A.R.) is a smaller rescue. We focus on dogs/cats scheduled to be put to sleep in shelters, but we also work hard to help the local community re-home their pets.

Best Friends Animal Society offers some great information about: HowtoFindHomesforHomelessPets.pdf

TNR: We also assist with Trap/Neuter/Release for cat colonies.

April 2, 2017:
We have resumed our Trap/Neuter/Release program.

Please see bottom of ths page for information.

Surrenders

Because O.S.C.A.R. is a no-kill shelter, we are contacted daily by numerous individuals and rescuers seeking to bring a homeless companion animal to us. However, our facility is small and our space is extremely limited.

If you have a family pet that you wish to re-home, we encourage you to start by posting that animal on our website as a courtesy listing while your pet remains in your care. Showing your pet at home where they are relaxed and accustomed to her surroundings will allow your pet to put her best paw forward. A dog or cat accustom to the comforts of home will not show as well once in a kennel. Many become so distressed when separated from their primary caregivers they show extreme behaviorappearing either frantic or withdrawn. If there is any chance you can keep your pet at home with you while searching for a new situation for him/her, it would greatly increase his/her chances of being adopted. If that is not possible, and you must re-home your pet, you may contact O.S.C.A.R. by completing and submitting the appropriate surrender form listed below. O.S.C.A.R. will not accept any animal without prior arrangement or approval.

TNR: Trap/Neuter/Release for Cat Colonies (Also known as Trap/Neuter/Return)

April 2, 2017: We have now resumed our Trap/Neuter/Release program.

"Trap/Neuter/Release is the humane and effective approach for stray and feral cats. Cats are humanely trapped and taken to a veterinarian to be neutered and vaccinated. After recovery, the cats are returned to their colonyoutdoors. Kittens and cats who are friendly and socialized to people may be adopted into homes. TNR stops the breeding cycle of cats and therefore improves their lives while preventing reproduction. Since feral cats are not adoptable, they are killed in pounds and shelters. Trap/Neuter/Release provides a life-saving, effective solution for these beautiful, independent cats."
Quote from www.alleycat.org/casefortnr

TNR Fees for FERAL CAT: $50

If you would like TNR assistance with a colony of cats, please fill out the Online Trap/Neuter/Release Form. We will evaluate the situation and assist if possible.

The caretaker of the cats is asked to help with trapping and transporting cats and with the financial cost of veterinarian services ($50 per cat). In certain situations, financial assistance may be available - but each colony will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

If you would like to make a contribution toward the Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) of feral cat colonies, please donate:

O.S.C.A.R. Feral Cat Trap Loaner Program:

April 2, 2017: We have now resumed our Trap/Neuter/Release program.

If you know of a feral cat for T/N/R, O.S.CA.R. will loan you a trap for a $70 cash deposit.

When the feral cat is brought to us for Trap/Neuter/Release, $50 of the trap deposit fee is used to cover the spay/neuter procedure. The trap(s) must be returned to us at this time. We will refund you the additional $20 of the trap deposit.

If the feral cat is not caught, we will return the full trap fee as long as the trap is returned to us in good condition.
